I didn't know this was a book for young adults until I decided to read it. I can identify with young Sami, being moved from a big city (New York) to a small town that her mom grew up in. Just as she is starting high school. The same thing happened to me when I was her age. She has a great love of music, and wants to become a great soloist one day. She had a great teacher and school in New York, but not in this small high school in Skenesboro.
The story has some of the same kind of plots others do. She meets the boy across the street (Jason), and immediately has an attraction to him. He is an artist. She also Makes friends with the girl everyone makes fun of and talks about (Breanna). Breanna, is an actress and writer. Then the story starts to really starts to get going. Without telling too much, there are two types of groups at this school. The Fasha (Sports), and the Goshenites (People of the Arts).
After the volleyball coach, Ms. Payne sees Sami, Sami somehow makes the volleyball team, and becomes popular with the cool kids, she assumes she's a Fasha. Twenty years ago the high school was all about the arts. But now, It's all about sports. And the one thing that keeps the school and the sports team going is a liquid known as aquamarine.
I like how the writer entwines both the groups in the school. To see if Sami can choose the right one. She writes some elements that I didn't see coming, but later you realize what's going on. The only part of the story that I didn't like was the ending. I won't go into details to ruin the story. I also wondered why Sami's mom, who had a big part through most of the story, seem like she was left in bed through half the book, and mysteriously appears in the climatic end. And how Sami had two best friends she had talked about in the beginning, and dreamed about, but not once did they factor into the story line.
The story was a pretty good read. The book is 221 pages, and I read the book in one day. It kept me interested, and not once did I say this was boring or dull. I would like to read another book by the author. I gave the book 5-stars. I was given this book for free or at a reduce price, for my honest and truthful unbiased review. All opinions are my own. I am a consumer. I personally buy and use every product I review.
